One hackney cab, please!

The play is set in 1880s! In this time woman suffridge was not established yet and even for healty women was almost impossible to earn a university degree! Helen Keller was the first deafblind person who obtained that degree. Is not it amazing! But lets focuse on the play.
In my opinion the time poriond in which is the play set is very important because first of all we have to realize that there was weak medical care that could not forestall Helens later disabilities. Nowdays doctors would have cured her infant illness.
I do not think that the plot of this play is somehow related to today's world becuase handicaped pople have their place in society; of course their live is hard but they have plenty of devices that make their live easier. Concerning women, their rights are equal to men's.
Nevertheless I think that some elements of human personality that appears in the play are relevant to today's world. One of them is human's strenght and faith to go through and manage various circumstances. If you really want something you will eventually get it.
Another one is our abilitity to learn new things and techniques. Without development we would not be where we are. Helen had to develop herself in order to gain at least some independence and later on her university degree.
