William Gibson

William Gibson was born in the Bronx (NY) in 1914. His first significant play was called Two for the Seesaw introduced on Broadway in 1958 however it was The Miracle Worker, for which he is best known.
Gibson was fascinated by Annie Sullivan and her success with Helen Keller. He wanted to write The Miracle Worker as a solo dance piece but he changed his mind and it firstly appeared as a television play on CBS. After a warm acceptance he got an offer to adapt the play for stage and film.
In my opinion the story of Annie Sullivan and Helen Keller is really absorbing and inspiring and that is why it deserved being on stage. People are enthralled by others, their different ways of living and different human natures. William Gibson did a great job which may have influenced many people with some handicap.
